At Fire Phoenix Martial Arts, we believe that the Study of Martial Arts is the Study of Control of the Mind and Body.

When we train in the Martial Arts, we are training our bodies to become strong, to respond to our thoughts and master the skills we are learning.

We are also training our minds to listen to Instructions, to make good choices and to work with our bodies to achieve excellence in our daily lives.

In class you will see us working towards these goals. We will start with a warm up, where everyone gets their body moving. Then we will do some target practice, working with a partner, and building coordination, balance and strength alongside developing the skills to work with other people, be supportive and be prepared to try and fail, and try again, right alongside other people doing the exact same thing.

Each class, our students are getting closer and closer to achieving their Black Belts. This is the goal of Martial Artists, and it is not simply a new Belt colour. Achieving a Black Belt is a process, and the process is similar to the process to create a diamond. You take something (someone) quite ordinary, you put them under pressure (to improve) for a long time, and at the end of the process you have something that is transformed. Something special, multi-faceted, sparkly and quite unlike what was there at the beginning.

At Fire Phoenix, we are all working towards this goal. We want to create students who are compassionate and who are highly skilled. Students who have power and strength and who make good choices. Students who have a wide range of skills to draw on, and who have the ability to know when to act and when to observe.

People of all backgrounds and abilities join us and do well. We all bring our unique experiences and insights to the journey, and we can create many pathways to the same goal.
